What is bovine colostrum?
- It is the first food of a newborn calf. The secretion of colostrum increases dramatically just before the cow gives birth and then stops 2-3 days after giving birth and is replaced by milk. Therefore, colostrum is not milk.
- Bovine colostrum is rich in various nutrients and provides high concentration of beneficial factors (immune and growth factors). It helps to protect the body against bacteria and viruses, stimulates growth and development, and ensures the healthy of digestive system.
What are immune factors?
- They are proteins that support and regulate the immune system.
- The most abundant immune factors found in colostrum are known as immunoglobulins.
- Bovine colostrum contains the highest concentration of immunoglobulins G (IgG).
- They help to kill bacteria, suppress inflammation and prevent allergy, regulate immune system and prevent auto-immune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), dementia and etc.
What are growth factors?
- They helps to promote cell growth, accelerate the healing of wound, improve the metabolism of fat and protein, burn excess fat.
- The best known growth factors are:
- Epithelial growth factor (EGF): plays an important role in maintaining the completeness of skin and development of bowel lining, to re-grow skin tissue and repair damage of the body, e.g.: improve the healing of wound of diabetes patient.
- Insulin-like growth factor (IGF): regulates the level of blood glucose and cholesterol, builds lean muscle and anti-aging.
- Transforming growth factor (TGF): promotes the healing of fracture bone and joint damage, stimulate the growth of epithelial cell of bowel lining.
- Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF): promotes the wound healing of skin and cartilages, suppresses the inflammation.
- Growth hormone releasing factor (GHRF): accelerates the secretion of growth hormone by the anterior pituitary body, anti-aging.
Why bovine (cow’s) colostrums?
- Scientific research, conducted in the last decade in major medical research centers and universities throughout the world, has shown that the combination of the immune and growth factors in cow colostrums are virtually identical to those in human colostrums.
- Research has also shown that bovine colostrum is not species-specific and can work effectively in humans as well as other mammals and will not cause allergy. Furthermore, it is 100 times as potent. The benefits and results are noticed quicker.
- The resource of raw material from cow can be strictly controlled and make sure the best quality that is safe to be consumed.
“True”colostrum VS "Transitional”colostrum
- True colostrum only comes within the first 6 hour after the birth of calf, with no added and removal of any substances; hence 100% retains its beneficial factors. It has very little lactose.
- Transitional colostrum usually comes within 6-72 hours after the birth of calf, the content of the beneficial factors will reduce drastically. Its lactose level is high enough to cause allergic reaction to those who are lactose-intolerant.
- Transitional colostrum must be denatured:
- adding lactase to neutralize the lactose
- removing the fat (the fat found in colostrum is very important because it acts as the transportation vehicle of the beneficial factors. So, by removing the fat you also remove half of the benefit that colostrum offer)
- adding chemicals to make it flow and to make it more water dispersible
